02 · Sauna performance
Thermal modification improves useful properties. It does not turn real wood into waterproof, structural, fireproof, or maintenance-free material.
Aspen has a smooth texture, contains no sticky resin, and stays comparatively comfortable to touch in sauna heat. Its quiet grain and light natural color also make it useful for walls, ceilings, benches, and backrests.
Yes, when you use the part made for that surface. Wall and ceiling profiles are thin finish cladding; rounded SHP bench boards and engineered or locally framed supports handle seating details. Wall paneling must not carry bench loads.

03 · Maintenance and installation
Most avoidable problems come from excess water, weak drying, harsh cleaners, poor storage, or installation details—not from normal sauna heat.
Thermory’s current catalogue recommends treating wooden surfaces before use with a breathable protector, with sauna wax or another suitable coating on walls and floor grids. Use only a product approved for sauna conditions and follow that finish manufacturer’s instructions.
Do not assume every oil is suitable. Thermory’s current public guidance calls for a sauna-appropriate breathable protector, wax, or maintenance product rather than naming paraffin oil as a universal requirement. Confirm compatibility with both the wood supplier and finish maker before coating the room.
Remove wet towels and seat covers, wipe benches with a clean damp cloth, prevent water from pooling, and let all surfaces dry with good ventilation. Thermory’s current guide also recommends a post-use drying cycle with the vent open.

04 · Buying and design
The face width you see, the board length you can actually use, and the shadow line you want are more important than the nominal “1×” name.
STS4 is the calm tongue-and-groove default; STEP creates deep square reveals; KYTE introduces a controlled multi-level rhythm; and VIRE creates a sculpted face that responds strongly to grazing light. Compare the profiles in the same room and lighting before ordering.
Tongues, grooves, laps, and relief details overlap, so the installed face covers less than the full board width. Use the manufacturer’s covering width for quantity calculations; using the nominal 1×4 or 1×5 name will understate the order.
